Eighty years ago this year, on June 6th, hundreds of thousands of Allied forces landed along a 50-mile stretch of coastline in one of the largest military operations of all time, marking a pivotal turning point of the Second World War. To commemorate this year’s milestone anniversary, an official NEW 80thAnniversary of D-Day £5 Coin Collection has been released, comprising three superb £5 coins. Approved by Buckingham Palace, each has been struck to an impressive Proof-like finish and meticulously enhanced in either Pure Silver, 24-Carat Gold or beautiful Rose Gold, On the reverses is a never-before-seen design by leading artist and sculptor Sandra Deiana who has worked for The Royal Mint, featuring a group of uniformed soldiers walking past debris as they wade through the English Channel. Meanwhile, on the obverses is an official effigy of King Charles III facing left, by renowned engraver Jody Clark. Demand to secure a tribute to this important event which helped liberate Western Europe from Nazi occupation is expected to be high but with a low mintage of just 2,024 sets, availability is limited at The Jubilee Mint.
