The NEW 80th Anniversary of D-Day Gold Proof Quarter Sovereign has been struck in Solid 22-Carat Gold to the finest Proof finish to commemorate exactly eight decades since the Normandy Landings on 6th June 1944. Officially approved by Buckingham Palace, the NEW gold coin features Allied soldiers on a beach in Normandy as they wade through the choppy waters of the English Channel. This superb reverse design, specially commissioned for this year’s historic anniversary, is by renowned artist Sandra Deiana, who is well-known for her work for The Royal Mint. Completing this NEW coin, on the obverse is an official portrait of the King, whose grandfather, George VI, was on the throne during the conflict. This superb likeness is by leading engraver Jody Clark, who is most well-known for designing the UK’s fifth and final official definitive coinage effigy of the late Elizabeth II.
