The UK’s 1980 Gold Proof Half Sovereign

The UK’s FIRST EVER Half Sovereign of the Queen's reign - struck to the highest Proof finish

  • Solid 22-Carat Gold
  • Featuring famous Pistrucci design
  • Includes Royal Mint Presentation Case

Following the rapid sell-out success of the Proof Sovereign the year before, in 1980, The Royal Mint released what would become a highly sought-after Half Sovereign, struck to the highest Proof finish, for the first time since the Queen’s Accession of 1952. On the reverse of this sought-after 22-Carat Gold Sovereign is Italian engraver Benedetto Pistrucci’s classical depiction of St George slaying the Dragon while the obverse features the UK’s official definitive coinage portrait of Her Majesty by famous coin and stamp designer of the time, Arnold Machin. Due to sustained demand during the last four decades, only a limited quantity of its original 100,000 mintage is now available at The Jubilee Mint. Housed in its original Presentation Case and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.
