The NEW 2025 William Wyon Una and the Lion Gold Proof Sovereign

A fitting tribute to Sir William Wyon’s everlasting legacy

  • Struck in Solid 22-Carat Gold to a Proof finish
  • Originally issued to mark Victoria’s reign
  • Worldwide mintage of JUST 699 coins

Sir William Wyon’s legendary Una and the Lion coin design was originally issued in 1839 but has now been brought back to life, appearing on an official NEW Gold Proof Sovereign. Struck in Solid 22-Carat Gold to the most pristine Proof finish, this limited edition release has been officially approved by Buckingham Palace. Much like the original portrayal, the reverse features a crowned Queen Victoria, guiding a lion, as well as The Latin ‘DIRIGE DEUS GRESSUS MEOS,’ meaning ‘May God Direct My Steps’. The year 1839 is also included upon the reverse in Roman numerals. Wyon’s design was inspired by Edmund Spenser’s 16th century Fairie Queene’ poem and in this depiction of Her Majesty she represents a symbol of power and guidance for the British Empire during the start of her reign. Meanwhile an official portrait of His Majesty King Charles III by renowned engraver Jody Clark can be seen on the obverse. Due to Wyon’s enduring legacy, this magnificent NEW Gold Proof Sovereign is expected to be in high demand, but with only 699 coins worldwide, availability at The Jubilee Mint is strictly limited. Each arrives in a luxury Presentation Case, complete with a Certificate of Authenticity.
