The NEW 80th Anniversary of VE Day Solid Gold Proof Coin has been struck in Solid 9-Carat Gold to the most pristine Proof finish to mark the end of the war in Europe. Officially authorised for release by Buckingham Palace, this 2025-dated issue features a specially commissioned design depicting the iconic skyline of London which became a focal point for the country’s celebrations on the 8th May 1945. In the centre of the reverse is St Paul’s Cathedral which thousands visited to attend one of many services giving thanks for peace and was later lit up by beams of light. The design is further complemented by a row of three flags, displaying the letters ‘V’ and ‘E’ and a Union Jack, expertly enhanced in full colour and reminiscent of the bunting and flag waving which marked the end of the conflict. Meanwhile on the obverse is an official portrait of King Charles III by Jody Clark who created the UK’s fifth and final definitive coinage portrait of Queen Elizabeth II.
