The first portrait to be issued during the reign of George V was struck between 1911 and 1928 inclusive and featured a larger portrait of the king. Significantly, the George V Sovereign was the last ever Sovereign to be used in circulation and it would be decades before it returned to our coinage during Elizabeth II’s reign.
