The Queen Victoria ‘Old Head’ Solid Gold Half Sovereign

The last ever Gold Half Sovereign of Victoria's incredible reign

  • Struck in Solid 22-Carat Gold over 115 years ago
  • Features the famous ‘Old Head’ portrait
  • Displayed in a luxury Presentation Case

Highly sought-after, the original ‘Old Head’ Solid Gold Half Sovereign was struck over a century ago by The Royal Mint in Solid 22-Carat Gold. It includes the final coinage portrait of Victoria’s entire reign which was issued in 1893 and nicknamed the ‘Old’ or 'Veiled Head’ as it depicted our second longest-reigning monarch in the mourning veil she habitually wore following the sudden death of her husband Prince Albert. Italian engraver Benedetto Pistrucci's magnificent depiction of St George and the Dragon features on the reverse. Due to difficulty sourcing genuine Queen Victoria ‘Old Head’ Gold Half Sovereigns in volume on today’s secondary market, only low numbers are available from The Jubilee Mint. Complete with a luxury Presentation Case and Certificate of Authenticity.
