Sovereigns from the early 1800s are always in high demand and combined with limited availability, are incredibly sought-after by collectors worldwide. Issued by The Royal Mint between 1831 and 1837, the William IV Sovereign has been minted in Solid 22-Carat Gold. Johann Baptiste Merlen’s ‘Shield’ design continued to appear on the reverse as a replacement to Benedetto Pistrucci’s St George and the dragon. The official portrait of the monarch, who was on the throne from 1930 until his death in 1837, is on the obverse.
