Queen Victoria Young Head with ‘Shield’ reverse

Among the most sought-after Sovereigns

  • Limited edition presentation of just 795
  • The definitive Sovereign of the Victoria era
  • Highly sought-after

Struck by The Royal Mint and first minted in 1838, the year after she became queen, the first Sovereigns of Victoria’s 63 year reign featured a portrait of the young queen by William Wyon on the obverse and J.B Merlen’s Crowned ‘Shield’ design on the reverse. The ‘young head’ portrait appeared on Sovereigns for nearly fifty years when it was updated with the ‘Jubilee head’ portrait in 1887. It was during the Victorian era that the Sovereign established itself as a truly iconic world-class coin and why this particular British classic is as popular today as it ever was.

N.B Limited edition presentation relates only to the coin as presented in our packaging. Coin shown for illustrative purposes only. Year dates will vary.
