The Official NEW Royal Mail Penny Black 24-Carat Gold-Plated Ingot

Limited edition tribute honours the WORLD’S FIRST EVER postage stamp

  • Released by Royal Mail
  • Accented in 24-Carat Gold
  • Only 10,000 ingots worldwide

In recognition of the lasting legacy and influence of Britain’s most famous stamp, introduced on the 6th May 1840, Royal Mail has now released an Official NEW limited edition ‘Penny Black’ Ingot, richly plated in 24-Carat Gold and featuring the exact 19mm by 22m dimensions of the original. Featured is a young Queen Victoria, inspired by a portrait designed by Sir William Wyon and later adapted by engravers Charles and Frederick Heath. Although depicted as a fifteen year-old, the sovereign’s likeness would remain in use for the 63-year duration of her reign, making it one of the most iconic portraits of all time. Also appearing on the face, as per the original, are the words ‘ONE PENNY’ as well as the distinctive check letters in the bottom corners, designed to reduce forgeries, while on the back is the famous crown watermark. A fitting tribute to Rowland Hill’s revolutionary invention, the magnificent NEW Penny Black 24-Carat Gold-Plated Ingot is a true icon of the Victoria era and can now be secured at The Jubilee Mint in limited numbers only. Housed in its official Royal Mail Presentation Folder which is individually numbered within its strict 10,000-piece worldwide mintage.
